The Pin-Up Files

What led to the pin-up art of the 40's and 50's? A brief history, the old hollywood stars, the pin-ups and other humourous bits.
Ever since man could draw or create symbols, woman has been a focus of his efforts. Her potent ability to bring forth life, her sexual magnetism and charisma have driven artists and inspired them from the beginning of time to present day. Ideals of beauty have changed along the way. In varying periods of history and in different cultures, beauty has been defined in ways that are beyond my ability to uncover here, in the pin-up files. This represents a slice of history, mainly focusing on the 1920's's through the 1950's, when the pin-up had her hey day and was the standard of feminine beauty along with icons like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and many other beauties of the big screen (and some beefcake, too). I hope you'll enjoy this foray into the world of the pin-up, which is seeing a revival currently, and perhaps think about what beauty means to you-- but mostly have fun...C MMgorgeous.jpg

A Plethora of Pin-ups from the 1930's-1950's From playing cards to calendars, fruit crate labels, to magazine covers, artists such as Alberto Vargas and George Petty wowed the sons of the fathers, who'd adored the "Gibson Girl's", by consistently creating more beautiful women than God.
