The thing with fish...

Surely a fish only knows he is wet if he has something to compare it to.

Being dry, for example.

But a dry fish is a dead fish

which is not a good thing

for the fish.

So, based on this thing

(the thing with fish not knowing they are wet)

How on Earth can I be sure that I'm alive?

Surely, if you've ever been mostly dead, then you know what it is to be somewhat alive.

excellent question,  Have you asked a fish if he knows the difference between wet and dry?

I judge my living status by the pulse at my throat, but that is rather simplistic of me.

Love the poem and the question.  In the last stanza, for some reason I think it reads better when you say "they're" not "they are"

----- Life is what happens while you wait for great things.

ya, i know what you mean. but the annoying thing is... once you're dead you wont "know" the experience and be able to compare that to living- at least if you are sensible and believe that there is no afterlife. so.. its like a paradox and its annoying. also.. this reminds me of the quote "they say dreams are only real as long as they last. coudln't you say the same thing about life?" from Waking Life, which is an excellent movie.

glad to see you posting again my loveee.
