006 Uncle Arthur and Grandma's demise

Definately a little Willie, this one. Don't read if you are squeamish.

Uncle Arthur, very fat
Sat on Grandma's Sunday hat.
As her head was still inside
It was squished and so she died.

A tragedy, but I'm not whining.
Every cloud has its silver lining.
Happily the hat was fine.
And now, I'm pleased to say, it's mine.

I keep reading poems today that make me laugh - this one gave me a full-belly chortle.  resilient hat, eh?

I am glad of that. Humerous verse should be a growing market but sadly it is much underrated by poets... seen as ephemeral. The hat was made of felt in a previous version hence it regained its shape very easily.

That explains why this poem seems so hatfelt.

Humour is underrated because people think being serious is the only way to be taken seriously.  And they don't have any idea how hard it is to really make people laugh, because they usually only laugh at men poking each other in the eye and other such enormous subtleties.

Old people being squished is perfect territory to explore.  More elderly demises please.

don't under-rate eye pokes.
