The Age of Monkeys

Perhaps we are all wrong. This steely disdain for poetry and the written word is a precursor to it's absolute relevance.

I am an optimist of sorts. Not the kind of optimist that expects good things to happen, but instead, the kind of optimist that expects some good thing to proceed from the myriad bad things that happen along the way.

I am the kind of optimist that believes conflict can result in real peace, that there is more to humanity than a wallowing in suffering and that words can change the world.

I suppose that might not seem like much of an optimist at all, but I think it is. And I think, right now, as we lurch along this path where catastrophe is the only obvious view, words are the solution.

Not the obvious words and the same words but new words and unthought of thoughts. It is for the poets to say the unsayable. I think we monkeys have work to do.

There is a world in need of saving. Could we please get down to it?

Thank you!

Hell, I've been working on it for decades, seemingly without support!!! If you're the Imperator, can I be one of your generals?
