night

night

the sky was clear
and framed in fir.
I tried to remember
where the shooting stars were.

eastern sky, high

straight up from us
where we lay
in the dew-dark.

the cat crept
across the grass,
along your voice,

"there’s one. did you see it?”

and I asked
"did you make a wish?”

“yes,” you said
in the Oregon dark.

it's a lovely piece, but I wonder do you intend the rhymes? In S1 it seems to start as a friendly metered rhyming. then in "eastern sky, high" appears to continue the rhyme. It could be rhymed for the remainder, but I don't thnk that was your intent. Either way, I miss shooting stars, too much city around here...

The rhyme was just serendipitous, creeping in almost as unnotioced as the cat.
