Shakespeare's Monkeys

Infinite Monkeys. Infinite Typewriters.

More in Words, paradoxes, metaphors...you name it they all come alive in poetry or prose.

I Am (not)

flowers?

I am not a red rose

with over worn commercialized

petals stiffened in syrupy words.

I am not a yellow daisy

with wispy tendrils unfurling

fake messages of lush love.

I am not a flower

to be cut, put in a vase and given

as a false hope to fix broken dreams.

No, I am a vine clinging to fences on the outskirts

of life, crawling the perimeters, and growing

unpruned in any direction I so desire. Exploring new

visions with every dawning of the sun’s golden

orb and dreaming new adventures with each rising

of the moon’s gentle blue glow. I surround my

expanding territory, like a mother encircling

her arms around her children with soft love.

I am the violet-blue guardian,

I am a morning glory.

Morning glory is actually classified as a weed here -- and you know, the thing about weeds is they're tenacious buggers and you can't get rid of them.  There are worse things to be.  Plus, it IS a pretty colour.

I'm not sure you need both fake and poison in "fake messages of poison love", I think that might be overstating a bit.  Also, will unpruned do on it's own, without totally?

I love the idea of this, Rene, it's really well conceived.

Thank you Leanne, for your thoughtful and insightful comments. It is a weed here as well but such a beautiful flower! I made some revisions to this and I feel you were correct about certain words not being needed. This is one that I am putting in my final portfolio for class this semester.

sometimes I feel like a weed, creeping around and strangling out the bad!! LOL

I am orbiting, I don't know where, but I am orbiting something!
