i noticed
that my finger nails
were all jagged from
being bitten down

so,
i spent a bit of time
using a nail file
and then, in a fit
of femininity
i painted them red.

hours later,
as my cuticles burned pink
and ached for forgiveness

i sniffed the remover
and then ripped the red off
from my finger tips
forcibly.

Welcome to hell
i said into my hands
