it is the sound of an ant
thundering across the kitchen
that wakes me from dreams of vomit

my ears descent along the moment
into the gentle silence
is recorded by your gasps

until i am prone

my head turned to the side
the smell of footsteps
fill me with happy despair

it is the knowledge of an ant
booming by my lips
that holds my tongue with gentle fingers

i wait

it is the mouth of an ant
teetering on the edge of a kiss
that reminds me of love

my heart pounds on linoleum
the taste of darkness
extends the dream to breakfast

i lurch awake

from the puddle of drool
and all the ants
they laugh.

This has a vivid surreal quality, and I like the striking paradox

of ants and "booming" loudness. It certainly conveys the sense

of lying flat out on the floor. As to any symbolic or metaphoric

significance that's open to suggestion - a dream-like amplification of

the small and insignificant perhaps...(sounds like a love symptom)...Intriguing and imaginative...Rgds.,Alan
