draft

i noticed a goddess
unworshipped -- drifting
from sunlight to shadow

i whispered,
"what is your name?
what is your name, Goddess?"

she did not hear me,
of course -- her naked body
glistening

i remember before
the altar, the robes,
the rites, the passage

downstream the gulls
celebrate the stream
and sea

the cool mountain water
her nymph-voice
silent
