Bogatelle

(not one of Oscar's)

The villanelle I hoped to write
Was not designed to desecrate,
But all my words have turned to shite.

I worked my butt off through the night
In pushing hard to extricate
The villanelle I hoped to write.

I studied poets erudite,
Made logs of works to emulate,
But all their words have turned to shite.

Yet, now enthroned, my mind takes flight
To lands where subjects venerate
The villanelle I hope to write.

Such comedy divine just might
induce an urge to defecate
Because my words have turned to shite.

So, as befits this parasite
To handsome 'L', I dedicate
The villanelle I'd hoped to write,
Before my words all turned to shite.

Stephan Anstey has, on behalf of the contest judges, selected 'Bogatelle' as winner of the 4rd Simian Award. Somewhat prematurely perhaps - nevertheless, I thought it fair to warn you - don't waste your money on the entry fee...
'Bogatelle' has also been accepted for publication by the American Reviewer's Syndicate of Excellence.
Furthermore, this publisher has offered me an advance of $5000 for the rights to my latest collection of acrostics - Poetry Offloads Ordinance - so I guess I won't be around here much in the future...

Hahahah. This whole thing cracked me up, especially "4rd". That is pronounced like.. ford. And should replace 4th.  Aaaand there are a uh, shitload of poo references in here, what's up with that? Gross.

And if you and this mysterious "L" ever throw caution to the wind and go ahead and breed... can I have one? I will pay my own money to have it declawed. Actually I wont, I'll just pay the medical expenses when it savagely attacks people. Pllleeease.

Yeh - I've had a flood of messages about that particular cross-reference. Perhaps I should start building a few bridges to ensure my footnote spans correctly.

I've also seen your work in the Poets In Society Herald and Beginnings Of Greatness -- Haiku Of Unusual Size Etc.

I yield the throne.
