in the desert

in the desert

when he came
out of the ground,
no one wanted the fact

that things would be
different now.
there would be duties
and rites
and obligations

where once
there had only been
loving one another,
healing the sick,

and turning words
into living things so beautiful
you couldn’t help
falling in love with them.

so, they ran away
and hid
when the stone was turned

and emptiness
caught them unaware.

I really love this poem, the feel of it is awesome. I took the liberty of playing with it a little (hope you don't mind). I got rid of the pucntuation and a few extraneous words that seemed to be in the way. I also transposed some of the wording. So, here goes;

he came
out of the ground
when no one wanted

things to be
different
there would be
duties
rites
obligations

where once
had been only
loving one another
healing the sick

turning words
into beautiful living things
that none could help but
fall in love with

so they ran away
and hid
when the stone was turned

emptiness
caught them unaware.

----- LIFE: I messed up, can I have a 'do over'?

I am orbiting, I don't know where, but I am orbiting something!

I really like your version.  I learned from it.  Thank you.
