Shakespeare's Monkeys

Infinite Monkeys. Infinite Typewriters.

More in The Personal Space of Norman Milliken

what bliss it would be

one of my favorite fantasies

what bliss it would be

what bliss it would be
to lie with
foxes
in the brush.

imagine red fur,
musk-smelling,
over those small bodies,
so carefully made

to end mice
and birds
and small snakes.

I would wonder
into them
with stories
of clever foxes,

and they would
wonder into me
with sleep,
legs twitching
in dreams.

oh, the bliss
of those small faces
close to mine,
their breath
brushing my hair

Norm, this is blissfully good .I love it. I am truly moved. I had only read your war poetry until recently, and that was a shame and a mistake. You are so much more than a war poet. This is truly sublime.

I am honored by your kind words. I am so pleased that you liked this little poem.

Norm, you just keep proving that you understand the natural world intimately, just as you understand the motivations of humanity.  The brush references are particularly clever, and I do love "I would wonder into them/ they would wonder into me".

A delightful poem from a very deserved Simian Award winner.

This poem reads like a dream happy and clear, and also full of "hidden" meanings sweet and sensual.

Have you started pulling your first book together yet?

Thank you all for the kind words.  And, Tracey, the Cinderella/Snow White manuscript is floating around a few places even as I type this. I'll keep you current as to its progress.

This is another beautiful piece about nature Norm. I really like it, almost as much as the Horse Dream poem.

Thanks, Laurie.
