Rubiyat

This arabic format has a quatrain wherein the first, second, and fourth lines rhyme. The rhyme scheme is thus; a-a-b-a. A single stanza can be a poem in itself or multiple stanzas may be joined to create a larger piece.

Eight syllables per line.



Headway



Every sailor always knows
It’s good when the wind blows
Shoot off in a new direction
No more of these status quo’s



Regrets are a waste of time
No emptiness will be mine
I’ll follow some great breeze
Far away to a different clime



I’m not all that thin-skinned
Some errors you can’t rescind
Such passage’s can be rough
Must avoid any long headwind
