Shakespeare's Monkeys

Infinite Monkeys. Infinite Typewriters.

More in Words, paradoxes, metaphors...you name it they all come alive in poetry or prose.

One More for Pag Tag...

This was definitely an exercise for my mind!

Auspiciously we all decided to
Begin this little game of sonnet tag.
Creative juices were stirred up by Pags,
Daring form poems, to be hailed as new.

Escaping the normal to see what we
Find, playing new games with each others mind.
Grasping at words and stretching them subtly
Helps willing poets to gently unwind.

Intuitive poets join in the game,
Jovial spirits know it isn’t lame,
Kindred people, passing words to and fro,
Letting imagination softly grow.

Molding our lines with no kind of regret
Making changes, we know we must edit

Neo-sonnets are a handy lever,
Ousting new lines, trying to make our rhyme
Pass for sense. We promise not to ever
Quarrel and count our words for perfect time.

Remember you’re invited; be clever
Sweet, and inventive, that gets us every-
Time. Help me to make this sound savory.
Utilize all avenues, make this cherry!

Visualize the game named after Pags,
Well wishers and players helping us learn,
Xylem won’t help us as we try to earn
Yearned for title of the winner of tag.

Zealously we play, a sonnet each day
Zero, they say, is the amount of pay.

Rene, I am in awe! I have just sat here looking at what you have achieved in this double abecedarian Pushkin (?) sonnet with jaw down. Until my husband came into the room and I told him to just LOOK what you had done. You even didn't cheat with x or z!

If you can write this sort of thing with a bit of a push after a 16 hour day then just what could you achieve during a day off on poetry retreat?

I will have to look 'Pushkin' up as I don't have a clue what that is. I was reading an A-Z poem that Derma posted and it hit me to try a sonnet that way. I wanted to incorporate all different patterns into it that I could think of, so this is what I came up with and each line should have a 10 syllable count as well.

Bowing low with a blush on my face Many thanks.

----- could someone turn the world back over, I'm getting dizzy!

I am orbiting, I don't know where, but I am orbiting something!

A mixture of rhyming schemes is exactly what the Pushkin sonnet does. http://www.thepoetsgarret.com/sonnet1.html
Have a look at this link. It's my fast sonnet style bible when I am at work. And probably the most up to date source of modern sonnet forms like the swannet and alfred dorn.

Thanks! I just went and bookmarked it so I could peruse it at my leisure.
