Virulent

I peer through the smudged window of my mind
Stained with the detritus of fear
Vermillion streaks, like darkened tears
Obscure my view of life

I gaze upon the beauty denied
Rejected by the pain that solitude brings
My exterior, calm and serene
Is but a gaping wound

Blood, stagnant and rank with fear
Trickles within my raging heart
Kept at bay by the seed of mistrust
Do I love or is it but rust?

Resolving to believe in me
A hoary scream of rage erupts
Virulent, as my inner self
Simply wants to cease
