Shakespeare's Monkeys

Infinite Monkeys. Infinite Typewriters.

More in Words, paradoxes, metaphors...you name it they all come alive in poetry or prose.

The Sound of Death

we recently lost our Rottwieler puppy(1 yr. old) when he got out and was hit by a car...

His mournful wail still resounded

thru my convulsing brain

as my clouded blue eyes tried

to make sense of the

somber, stoic, silent scene,

that seemed to never end,

in front of my emotions.

Six feet and one inch, bulging

veins, trembling muscles, and

veiled translucent blue eyes

kept stabbing the round tipped shovel

deeper and harder into the

concrete dirt that tried to refuse

us entrance into its sphere.

He persevered without halting, never

looking up, only down in his quest

to make a burial place

for the one hundred plus pounds

of pure puppyhood that lay wrapped

in the Power Rangers sheet of the

five year old nephew

who stood just as stoically

watching

his uncle

in the hole

stab the shovel

deeper.

My brothers brown eyes burned with loss at not

knowing what to do,

his other half stood unwaveringly by

his side as her green eyes shimmered with

unshed pain

and I

wandered back and forth

between all of them

trying to mother them all while my pain

escaped in a torrent of waters that fed

the grave

of our beloved family pet,

Spike.

I am so sorry...  how sad...

Thank you so much. It was heartbreaking and we all cried. He got out of his fence and chased something (I don't know what) way out onto the highway and got hit. I found him and my brother and I loaded him in my truck and brought him home to bury him.

Very sorry about your loss. He was lucky to have found a home where people cared so much about him.

Thank you all for your care and concern. Spike was an integral and important part of our lives and he held many hearts in his mighty paws. His meaning to us ran so deep that I don't think I could ever really do it justice in a poem. We have, however, been GIVEN his brother by the generous owner from whom we purchased Spike. Brutus is not as larg as Spike was but he has already made his own place in our home and hearts. We buried Spike in the yard beside the house underneath a beautiful pear tree and Ethan (the 5 yr. old) wants to make a cross with his name on it to put there so that he can be sure to not run over him with his bicycle....Thank you all once again.
