Additional information

Rae ellen brought up a very good question. Carbonated beverages are called so many things, but which is the proper term? I think we need to figure this out. We must monkey with it until we know the truth of this matter.

It really depends what IT is. If its fizzy and the only flavouring is a pinch of bicarbonate of soda, then it's soda. If on the other hand it is a male parent I guess it could be called pop. There again if you tend to stick it up your nose then it might just be coke. What was the other option

Mine is a pint of real ale please.

Thank goodness we are addressing this critical issue! When we get to the answer, I think we'll have found the key to word peace.

Related question: Following your preferred carbonated beverage of choice, do you burp or belch

Isn't this a regional word? This reminds me of the question do you use a frying pan or skillet? Although maybe you use a saute pan?

according to my 4 year old son it's coke.

According to me it's pop unless it's cola and then pretty much everyone is coke.

To me soda is the water that is carbonated that tastes really good with amaretto

as i told ansteypants:

here in the zoo, it's mainly "pop". my family, being from the south, calls it "soda"... but... a vast majority of people call EVERYTHING "coke"... i am very confused because i continually get made fun of by our friends because i call it soda. i must be the only person under 50 in the state of montana to call it that...

bring on the belch v. burp issue!!!!!

and as for that one: i "burp" quietly and say "oh. excuse me!" like i'm totally suprised! hahaha.

"belch" to me is one of those sounds when men get together and drink a ton of beer over football and then try to one up each others noises.

does that make sense? or is it just me?

I usually call it "undrinkable" (unless it's beer)

9- Pags on Jul. 12 2007

Being a lady, I do neither. But I call carbonated beverages... fizzy drinks!

When my kids were little, they referred to seltzer as "bubble water." They pronounced it: "Bubba wuh-duh."

the little girls i used to nanny for called my perrier/san pelligrino "sparkle water"... when i asked for an explaination they said, "because it sparkles in your mouth!"  HAHAHAHA!
