auto show

auto show,
Portland, Oregon

three hearses
parked abreast
in the maple shade frame
of the Willamette River.

Cadillacs
that once hauled heartache
and regret
at the speed of death,
sat apart
from hot-rods
and pristine painted Pontiacs.

aimed away
from muscle cars
and roadsters,
they waited
as though poised for one last procession,

doors open like arms,
content to embrace loss
and passing.

norm - just wanted to tell you how much i adore the last stanza.  who'd have thought one would discover such a profound sentiment at an auto show?

I'm glad you liked it.

Mmm. This is cool. We have an auto show here every few weeks, and I'd never quite thought of the cars in this way. I like the perspective and the delivery.
