in the castle

(from my Snow White poems)

in the castle

the servants eavesdropped
when she spoke
to the mirror.

rumors ran
from dungeon
to turret-

“the queen is mad”

soon there was talk
of poison
and apples.

from every kettle
in the kitchen
cats and rats
were fed first.

they grew fat on fear.

I really like this Norm, with few words you tell a pretty complete story. For some reason, I think "mad" isn't the right word for "the queen is mad" but I can't think of a better word so maybe it is.

I would disagree with Shannon on the use of the word 'mad' -- which i think is perfect.
