More in The personal space of Ellen Anstey

Sleep envy on Saturday morning

He waits for me, Making just enough movement so I know he is there. A low growling purr, as he travels lightly around my head, And back around to sit on my feet. Finally my bladder gets the best of me.

Green terry cloth robe on, pit stop, Green in the eye as I watch you still sleeping, Creak down the stairs followed by four excited, elephantine paws. When my descent down proceeds too slowly, She joins us and hurries me with her meows.

New water in the blue bowl. New crunchy nibbles in the other. Pop-top the yellow can. Split it between the two plastic bowls. Equally.

Maybe, if all things were equal, Next Saturday you can have the honor. Just don't forget to wear the green robe

Why does Stephen in that green robe disturb me? I like your style Ellen, it's real and human.

I echo Shannon in that I like your style, or maybe it's more accurate to say the voice of the pieces you've posted so far. I see your writing as leaning more toward essay/short story than poem, but I have a lot of nerve to make such a pronouncement when I've only read two of your works!

I want more. Please?

...SO relatable. Fortunately, our furry family members let us sleep in.  Instead, it's the incessant "mommy mommy mommy mommy" of our three year old is my typical wake-up call on Sunday mornings...

I enjoy your voice and look forward to reading more!
