Shakespeare's Monkeys

Infinite Monkeys. Infinite Typewriters.

More in ergo sum hominus

14. degusto

i taste

maggots eat my tongue
one bud at a time
the capillaries
the soft pink muscles
the drying brown blood

peppermint candy
from the night table
lodged between the cheek
is a memory of moments
before

white powdery residue
covers everything
inside like november snow
and tells the story
of how nothing ends

maggots grow
and fly away

with me.

Alcuin of York - on May 18 2007
I thought I had already commented on this. Maggots on the tongue? I wonder if the white pwdery residue is not the kind of peppermint candy I'm used to. It's the only explanation that allows this entire poem to make sense to me.
