baboons sit above.

old whiskey in the gutter
then apes for his fans

the gorilla smiles at me
Darwin, you old fool

soft hairy bellies
brush mother's other teat
mmm milk.

old shakespeare balding
watches monkeys at the zoo
tragedy? or farce?

chocolate circles
but no orange wrappers here
only happy chimps

big ape shit, unflung
in a large pile on the way
the trail quite clear.

behind the monkey
another small monkey face
and then another

Goodall reads 'Farside'
and she laughs and laughs and laughs
the apes snore loudly

three spider-monkeys
leap bravely from tree to tree
one dead young monkey

a fat gorilla
picks lice from her beloved
