broken hearted

There is popcorn somewhere
being popped and buttered
salted and handed out to an old man
watching a movie completely inappropriate
for him, but since he has no one
no one will say anything
and besides he'll enjoy it
(the popcorn and the movie)

until he gets home
and tries to laydown
remembers he's out of antacid
and starts to cry from the pain
in his red swollen esophagus

then,
sits up in the recliner until 3am
thinking about the way the guy
in the movie kissed the beautiful
dark skinned raven haired actress

thinking about the way he'll never
have a woman in his arms to
kiss that way or any other way
because fear had left him here
with drab boring clothes and
books about the proper way to clean
or replace a carburator

when he finally falls asleep at 4:24am
he doesn't realize that it wasn't heartburn
or indigestion, and begins his last dream
about sailing across the Atlantic in a 30-footer
