inheritance works both ways

Ally smiled so broadly when we met
it made me wonder if I knew her
from way back when,
perhaps she played at some park
where I took the kids
when they were still too little
for a moment alone
or, maybe I'd bought her pizza
after a soccer game sometime
years ago
but then
i saw her talk to Emily with such love
all animated and passionate
like a monkey at a buddhist temple
that's how
she already knew me.
