Springtime

fooling around again (this morning on the train)
I am king of green
naked and stomping
from the red sands of Utah
to the bottom of the Pawtuckett canal
where the corpse of Mrs Beaupre's tabby rots

My salt-stained kingdom is a cast iron pot
filled with a silver-spoon stone henge
in hambone and pea soup

the fearless buds of wait for my angry sun
to call them out to dance
dressed in April's tails
and May's sweet flowered dresses

I am the king of green
naked and stomping
and I decree my kingdom shall be free
of whos and whats and whys
nothing in my kind domain shall live
dead and brown,
nothing here dare dies
