Lambert's Fruit Stand

The asparagus is stacked 3 deep and 18 tall
from the ground to near the top of the ceiling
on the corner of Summer, Winter and Washington.

I say, "Chicks dig asparagus," and laugh
as I pick the freshest ones towards the back
and wonder -- shaved and steamed
will they love me too?

For days after, my urine smells,
and i think a tiny bit of vinegar
and red onion might have made that meal
better.

She said, "Thank you,
that was wonderful."

Did her urine stink too?
