Bloom

: “Nothing is less real than realism. Details are confusing. It is only by selection, by elimination, by emphasis that we get at the real meaning of things.” -- Georgia O’Keeffe

Inspiration: Red Canna (1923), Oriental Poppies (1928), Light Iris (1924) & Georgia O.
Symmetrical mystery
Radial burst of poppy
Lateral spread of iris

Velvet-furred and succulent
Ripple-edged petal
Vermillion invitation

Tinctures bleed damp fragrance
Opiate crushed tints
Blend cinnabar blend lilac

Summon to scarlet embrace
Fuschia and plum strokes beckon
Eyes lured to darkest recess

Bloom forth in palette’s rapture
Lurid delicacy
Of an unfurling flower

Well, that was sexy.  amazing what notions a good flower painting brings to mind. whenever I go to a local exhibit, if there are water-colors or pastels, someone invariably has a series of blooms, usually roses, and they always seem very suggestive.  this must be why men bring flowers home to their wives, no?

I enjoyed the image painted with words here. I am curious if I"m missing some greater metaphor.
