Weak ends

On Friday night at 8pm we will go to the theater
with a nice meal in our bellies and our son beside us.
We'll sit quietly and watch the actors step on stage.

On Saturday morning at 9am we will sip coffee
and munch bagels while we discuss each line in depth.
Our daughter tells how she loved it when she saw it
alone.

On Saturday night we'll drive them both
to a nasty violent movie full of visual effects and
drop them off with their friends while we go off
alone.

On Sunday at Mass you'll say a prayer thanking God
for each of us and I will wonder if there will be wine
with communion, or if I will sit angry in the pew
alone.

On Sunday afternoon, when a large pork roast is served
we'll sit down to eat and laugh, as we tell your parents
how the actors moved us and the play was so amaing.

Sunday night we'll slide between the green cotton sheets and
with a sweet kiss, I'll roll of into odd dreams of unwritten songs
full of the sad thoughts of spending tomorrow at work
alone.
