i was never 15

I was never from canada
but my grandfather was from newfoundland
and told me to avoid the women
up north for fear of the worst sort of fate,
"Let me warn you," he'd say,
"They May Cause Temporary Happiness.
but is that worth it, for a life time
with a woman?"

Years later when I thought about being 15
for a second and a half, I remembered
long enough to dismiss him as a feeble-minded fool,
"grampa," I thought,
"Look at her breasts though?"
