almonds and prisms
i took some fishing line
and a needle and poked
it through an almond
to hang in my window.
i thought maybe if
the light hit it just right
i might be able to see
more clearly.
the afternoon sunbeams
careened through my prism
which was just to the left
of it and left a rainbow on my wall
that covered most of the dingy
little shadow of the nut,
and only the smell in the air
suggested the marzipan I couldn't see.
