Digging for a dead crab
I found a Scallop
still alive
that I named "Sam"

because it seemed a scallopy sort of name
and I always wanted a scallop
to call

Sam lasted about 25minutes
and then he died.

I pulled out the mess in the middle
pierced the end of his shell
and hung it around my neck
to remind me
of all those good times we had
walking down the beach
checking out the chicks

the cool water
and the soft sand between my toes
and the smell of shellfish.
