I glanced down
and thought I had
eleven fingers

so,in a panic
I re-counted them all.

I was surprised
that I didn't recognize the backs of my hands.

So many times
people talked about
their fond memories
of the backs of their own hands

wistfully almost

Of course, I can't put any names
to those faces

I remember them
just like I remember the back of my hand.
