No God atop the mountains

No God behind the curtains
or the flag unfurled
No God to make me man

No God to sing to softly
No God of rock and roll
No God to give me solace
No God to ease my pain
No God to know my thoughts
as they bounce inside my brain

No God inside the children
No God inside the pope
No God for love or truth
No God for endless hope
No God to carry me
No God to hold me back
No God to excuse me
or my unprovoked attacks
No God when I am weary
No God when I am good
No God to offer reasons
to do the things I should

No God below the oceans
No God upon the seas
No God to celebrate
when I drop down on my knees
No God to offer prayers
No God to blame for death
No God inside my teardrops
or hanging in my breath
No God to love me endless
No God to love me true
No God for me to believe in
so I guess I'll believe in you.
