relative morality

I live in the middle of a big hole
where the enlightenment is trapped by the gravity of my situation

every day someone asks me how
and I tell them

then never believe me
because to believe me would require thought
and conviction -- purpose.

Well let them rot with Mrs. Sheehan,
Ms. Dowd, and the rest of the moral authority.

I will forego self-righteous indignation
and pompous indulgence
while I kneel here in sincere prayer

alone
at the bottom of my whole.
