God Farts

skunk cabbage smells bad if
and generally only if
you kick it. Otherwise, it sits
silently and odorlessly minding it's own business.

but when God farts
the stench is endless

combobulated on a dock watching another
perfect sunset
with a sky tangoing from blazing golden orange
into royal indigo
I sat.

gruntled by a perfect end
to a perfect day
in the midst of a perfect life.

whelmed by the beauty of it all
as a loon called from the opposite
shore across the glassy black surface
of the lake.

until God farted
and the stench was endless

like my dream of you.
