wouldn't it be nice
if i shaved my head bald
and my face clean
and lost a hundred pounds
wore white linen shirts
and bright red pantaloons
carried around a lute all day
and chanted doggerel loud enough everyone could hear me
and laugh
I'm sure you'd find it all so charming
one thing would lead to another
because that's what one thing does
when left alone long enough
and then where would we be
with one thing
and another...
alone.
