Defleo

Aestuo Occultus

There he stood
Solitude personified
Gazing out the Eastern Gate
Ruing fortune

Adam had departed

Again

Eden had seen many an Adam
This one
Was the last hope

When he left
Hope went with him
Leaving Uriel to ponder

This last great Angel
This remnant of the Elder
Was bereft of answers

Adam’s leaving he understood
For he too had been forgotten
Left to defend Eden alone

Now

It was just he
And Eve

Eve
Reigning over all flora and fauna
Tending for the next Ark
An Ark that now seemed to lack a future

Both were saddened at Adams leaving
Though neither could fully accept

One thing they knew however
Adam was not of their world

The last they saw of him
As he continued beyond the safety of Paradise
Was his face
His one last glance behind

Recalling this
Following his example
They too wept
