
Mmm. I keep rereading this fascinating little slice of life. I like it a lot, I think because of the originality of the commentary on the intersection of religion and politics in a faraway but not so faraway land. (How's that for a run-on sentence?)

she worries about muslims not in burkas but in fatigues the sharpness of their steel and her own tender throat as she teaches small girls to read. it is easier in Rome where the red cloaks hide blood stains and the silly hats distract her from God's real truth the sharpness of their words and her own sad dreams as she prays to a small God for peace. ![]() Mmm.
