Griffin

Diaphanous Heliotrope

Vulture rests on a pile of bones
While the last of your life
Forty years lost and a lone
Slowly fades in the pale afterglow
From the last flight to leave home

Crazed roaches swarm
Scurrying to reclaim their throne
While up in the sky
The rockets red blaze
Puts on a final display

You duck the splintered shards
But cannot evade
The vultures’ hungry glare
From on your chest
As mankinds last hope
Blows itself to bits
