More in Personal Space of Dawnmarie Desroches "Don't judge me"“Don’t judge me”
A sign I hold here begging for food You walk right past me calling me a crazy fool You utter words for me to get a job as you walk right pass me With no knowledge of my life you judge me by what you see My family is hungry and times are tough My job let me go because things are getting rough I had a job that filled me such pride and joy Now I sold everything my children have no toys Now you walk past me day after day Talking on your cell phone avoiding looking my way I beg you for a dollar to spare for I have such pain inside This is what life has resorted for me I’m filled with shame and no pride There is little I can do as I walk these streets Homeless and barefoot yet they all want to judge me There is not much I can do for the way I look For this isn’t the life I chose I have done all I could But you can’t see this as everyday you walk by For you keep telling yourself you have more pride Then I saw you cross the street that one cold day You were on your cell phone you didn’t look both ways You got hit by that car it was such a frightful sight So I went over to you I wanted to do what is right You were badly hurt and with such fear in your eyes I was an EMT before I was let go as I could see your surprise I am here to help you; you will soon be all right For I will not judge you as I will save your life
