nothing about love

on a rock on the edge of a lake
in new hampshire
where I stood and watched
the little fish swim by

i didn't know the reflection
of your face
and the highlights of
dawn golden on your hair

I was young then
and not yet quite the fool
I was destined to become.

God, I was young.

I watched a mosquito
fall under the water
amidst the lunge of
a breakfasting bass

I felt wreckless
alone in my dawn
because no one knew me
not even me.

I met you after I got off
that rock is still
wet where the little
waves lap along the edges.

You still don't know me
just my lies.

It's ok
I still don't know
anything about love.
