on the path by my house


out of the corner of my eye
i saw a frog
brown and about a quarter inch long.

had I said something,
anything at all,
you'd know too
and then it would be real

but instead
i was greedy
and held the image in my head
and now,
when i close my eyes
and forget

there is no frog at all.
