Comment inspired from Somnabulant with Aggression

Somnabulant with Aggression:

Well, We agree that it is unpopular, but not that that is a problem.  If one doesn't care whether there is a market for poetry, then there is no problem at all.

Ryan:

I think there is a vast difference between writing for one's self as an audience and writing to share ideas with an array of people, and influence the world around us with our thoughts. Obviously both are selfish in some way, but if one is trying to communicate to a wider audience the cultivation of the audience and thus the popular appeal of the presentation of the work do matter. In that sense the writing isn't for the writer at all, it is for the audience.

Now as far as poetry vs. prose, I didn't mean to imply meter is required for poetry at all. to be more clear -- Prose is defined by sentences, Poetry by lines.
