More in Release the Hounds

nature vs. nurture

draft
my left pinky finger
is the devil, but
it hurts and i can't
bite him off. so

i live with him mocking
me from six twenty am
until eleven fifty nine pm

damn you,
i burn

in the basement is
a rusted unbaited
beartrap waiting
for a bear

i look at it
first in the morning
in my boxers just
before my shower

then last thing
as i turn out all the lights
and wonder how dark
could it be in heaven
right now?

the devil
is the bait
i think

with one quick
irony slam
perhaps the worst
might be chewed from
the hand of another God-wannabe

the first 8 stanzas -- all good......I especially like: "how dark could it be in heaven right now?".......but I would suggest ending your poem with the line "the hand of another God-wannabe".......to my ear, it's a stronger ending than the somewhat overused "the least of my worries".......all in all [what, another cliche??] I like the poem lots.....Kat
