I don't know about this one. It's kind of dumb...dumber than my usual dumb stuff

You think this is dumb and I think this is among the least dumb stuff you've written, and you know I don't think your other stuff is dumb.  Structurally it's really quite cool, with the alternating stanza lengths ("greedily grazing in the sky" is a bit long and awkward though).  But what really gets me is the last stanza, which is very profound and definitely NOT dumb.

I think this is great. In fact, I read it to my kids. They are 10, 8, and 5. They all enjoyed it as well. It has passed the kids test, that should tell you something.

...but what do I know?

Boogers are full of protein.

Sure, it's generally protein that's made up of bacteria, but who cares?

There's something else that's nice about this poem.  It speaks to the innate wisdom of a child. and so much of children's literature really doesn't.  I think it's lovely.

I SO agree with that... too many children's writers don't give kids enough credit... Jen always does and that's why I like her stuff so much.

Who says we won't be?

One day the world will be full of great poetry and Hallmark will lie dead and rotting on the ground... right next to almost all of Oprah's book club picks.
