Goodness gal! This one I had to reread several times. That's because I always regarded looking back as more difficult than looking in. Finally I realized your meaning. Nicely done! And the difficulty in my understanding might be because a) I'm slow; or b) slow on Sundays only; or c) because this is very intriguing - which makes it more interesting.
I also like your choice of italic font. It fits the run-on thought processes. I can suggest no improvements.
