I really like this. It's funny, i stopped on the 'but' for quite a while and pondered if you could cut it, or if you could change it to though, set it off by itself, etc etc. I'm not sure any of that would be at all helpful. In the end, I think it's pretty good as it stands.
The first stanza is brilliant.
