Dandelion Love

  Next >>

As a young boy I knew early
How girls enjoy receiving
Flowers as gifts or just because

I still remember your smiles when,
Grubby and stained, I walked through the front door
And gave you my Dandelion Love

they may have been weeds
And (our own front yard
Was as far as I had gone)

But they were picked with such care [What is a better verb for 'picked with care?]
And given with such pride
That you couldn't help but accept my Dandelion Love

Now that I am grown
And I realize they were not roses
Nor of tulips were my bouquets made of

To you they
were as precious as any
Because that's how I they said, "I Love You!"
When as from your little boy I gave you my Dandelion Love

And even now I find myself in that same yard
With your Grandsons at my side gathering
As they hold up their collections to see if I approve

"Will Bami like this one?" they ask
Tears forming as I nod to their excited faces

Once again, Mom, we give you our Dandelion Love
