Hope starts at the tips and runs the length of the body a digital voice proclaims "I would kill a million photostaticChinamen for a glass of water."

With grenadine on the mind, a perfect outfit for the Place de la Concorde. One heart, beating as it strums on a gut-strung guitar, playing variations on a nightgown in flaming madness. Here is the pocket-sized addiction of Kruger's own neon grotto nightmares-but only their beginning. Whenceforth hand-eye handshakes will againhave some intrinsic value

Pelafina, you bowl with
   my eyes in spiraled hallways.
I find only a kaleidoscope
of silt in my lashes when
I return, and you leave me
on littered isles with no compass
  and no line of contact.

I love every instant, and
would never leave your alley
unseen and empty. Not
for freedom, and not for love.

On the road each night we air

our grievances the passing days.

through cigarettes, what is said there

amongst the travelers will stay.

Doctor Pepper and Lucky Strikes:

a midnight trek now commonplace

work now in tandem, for a price;

how savory the lingered taste.

On failing engines bet our lives,

Choked in clouds misspend our prime

and fuel addictions on the drive:

Taurine, nicotine and time-

a drug itself: the thieving clock.

It levels all by its own course.

The death knell of its ticking talk

speaks volumes yet goes never hoarse.

(So one more measure shall we pour,

a glass we raise in company.

The sun shines on no closd door;

we share a drink with thee.) ... more

"-Nadja. This was the name she had chosen for herself. She liked it because 'it is the beginning of the Russian word for hope--and it is only the beginning.'"

-Andre Breton: Nadja Four years now, and still I haven't responded.
I don't know what I'd do
if I saw him today.

What is disgrace? It's wishing
your name was a maiden.
Wishing you'd never seen that hole
in the shit part of town,
Wishing that the smell of the previous occupant's
  cigarette fetish would leave
your nostrils.

It's regret, the memory
of the black cat in the open window behind
the stereo. But the only pang of guilt is a lack of remorse
entirely. The capacity to write people out
of your poems without a forensic trace.
Sometimes murder can be committed in silence,
wishing for silence to wash your face
and fingers. Wishing at a lock never changed
the combination.

Perhaps Freud was somewhat right
on one and a half points: and a cigar
  is usually just that.
The damn cat didn't run
away that night, either,
at least it learned to be less inquisitive,
but that's another story. ... more
