Rule 1: Treat others as you wish to be treated.

I'm a big fan of this principle. Before you post anything, whether it's a picture, a comment, or even a passing remark in chat ask yourself one question: How would I feel if someone said this to me?
If you'd be ok with it, then most of the time, it'll be fine.

Rule 2: Don't Swear in titles or public forums

Please leave your titles swear-free. By swear, I'm specifically referring to the seven words you're not supposed to say on network television before 9pm.
Swearing is not a big deal, really, it isn't. I don't care if it's in journal posts, stories, poetry, or articles. All I ask is that you keep it off the boards, as a sign of respect, and out of titles.
The key is where it is. I am asking that you offer people who are offended by that sort of thing some inkling as to the content of your post, so that they have the choice to avoid it. You have the right to post it, they have the right to not read it. ... more

Rule 3: Give & Take Criticism with grace

As you give criticisms of people's writing, and as you receive them, keep it graceful. This isn't so much a rule, as a thought -- a goal. When you're given a criticism you disagree with, be mature enough to say thank you, and move on. Accept that it was given in the spirit of genuine camaraderie, and let it go. When you give a criticism, don't be personal, look at the work for what it is, and find something positive as well as something that could use work.
This is not a demand that you say only nice things, quite the contrary. We are striving to create a community of honest and constructive critics. But there is great wisdom in the immortal tunes of Mary Poppins:"A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down." ... more

Commenting: More than a Suggestion.

This is more than a request. Here's how it's going to be.
Moderators have been informed that they are allowed to move comments from member writing to the general writing forum with a title: "Conversation inspired by .." with a link back to the work if the comment offered is not related to the work directly.
This instruction in no way affects suggestions, and critiques of writing, questions about a work or the like. Nor does this mean comments will be 'deleted' -- the entire idea here is that we'll be trying to form a general work-flow on all posted pieces that makes sense for the community, the authors, and the adminstrators. ... more
